But with all this productivity fueling me, not to mention the good cheer of the Christmas season quickly approaching, something terrible is about to come. Something so detrimental to my writing that I fear I may never find my way again. Something so horribly counterproductive that I may as well just stop writing altogether until December 22nd arrives, because it’s not going to matter after that.
What, pray, is this event that looms ever nearer to me, you ask?
An 11-day Hawaiian vacation over the Christmas break!
Just when things were starting to look up for me; just when I am soooo close to finishing my novel (which has taken several extra months to complete because of utter and fierce writer’s block); just when I had four more months of freezing temps and feet of snow to stay huddled away, snug inside my home, giving me a reason to sit in front of my screen for several hours at a time pursuing the lovely craft, my father-in-law decides to pay for our entire family to stay in his condo in Maui for two weeks.
What the Hell!
Never mind the beaches, never mind the ocean, never mind the 75-85 degree temps, I…
(I’m not entirely sure what I wanted to say there.)
It’s starting to sound pretty nice, actually. Oh, who am I kidding—I’m going to love it, despite my immediate drop-off in writing time and volume, but that’s what a vacation is, right? Yes, I’m still going to bring some work with me, and, yes, my intention will be to finish the first draft of my novel.
Who am I kidding. I’ll be lucky if I even have the motivation to swipe my finger across the “slide to unlock” prompt on my iPad screen, let alone type two whole words while in The Aloha State. Wish me luck, anyway. By this time next week, I’m gonna be on Hawaii time.
Next Monday’s blog post should be rather interesting…
Cheers.
