Q: FAVORITE AUTHOR?
A: That's a tough one. I'm such a story lover that it doesn't matter who the author is. But since my all-time favorite literary character is Sherlock Holmes, then I guess I should answer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I'll throw Ian Fleming in there, too. Any author that can create such timeless, lasting characters are top-drawer to me.
Q: FAVORITE NOVEL?
A: This is too close to call, so I'm going to sit on the fence and call it a tie between Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows and The Road.
Q: WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR IDEAS?
A: From a rusty chest I accidentally unearthed while breaking up an old slab of concrete in my backyard.
Q: HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO WRITE YOUR 1st NOVEL?
A: Not only could you call it my first novel, it was my "learn-how-to-write-a-book-in-the- first-place" novel. I had to learn how to type, for crying out loud! I was a hunter and pecker in the beginning. On top of that, it was also the first book in a six book series, so there needed to be extensive planning involved before I could even type out the first sentence. All told, it took about 4 years to complete. In contrast, my second novel in the series took 4 months to write.
Q: WHAT'S YOUR ADVICE FOR ASPIRING AUTHORS?
A: Persevere, persevere, persevere! It may seem like you're spinning your wheels some days (months!), until, suddenly, you've got a book written. If and when you begin to feel discouraged with the craft, remember these choice words from Mr. Anonymous: "NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE INEVITABILITY OF GRADUALNESS." Oh, and I'd also like to give a shout out to planning. Plan, plan, plan. Know your story inside out. Know ever single hair on every character's head, or else don't even bother writing the thing. Save yourself and your readers some time --> plan big. Good luck!
